Sprint Clone Scam Cracked
Federal prosecutors have uncovered a scam that used tens of thousands of cloned cellphones to defraud Sprint out of $15m in lost long distance revenue.
The fraud came to light in a criminal complaint that accused nine Sprint employees of illegally accessing customer accounts more than 16,000 times between January and June of this year. Among the information they took were the MSID, or mobile station ID, and the ESN, or electronic serial number, that are used to uniquely identify each handset on the Sprint network. By plugging the credentials into new cellphones, people were able to make phone calls that were charged to the accounts of the defrauded customers.

SDX Roots the Epic on Release Day
The crack team at SDX has rooted the Samsung Epic in time for it’s debut. This will allow the installation of rooted applications, opening it up for more and better applications.
There are currently 2 methods, one that will work on any system and you must follow a series of steps. The second is basically a script that runs the command in one step, although this will only work on Windows.
There is also a Tether app that will work on the Epic as well, that is posted at the Google Code site, and works according to users.
Thanks to joeykrim for the root, and to noobnl for the easy to use Windows script. Thanks also to users who provided system dumps that helped make this possible.
And now, the links:

Amstel ROM 2.0

Here is a custom ROM for the Samsung Moment currently at version 2.0 that is based on Radioactive Froyo 1.8.7 from noobnl but with meatkernel 2.0.7 rc1 added to it.
I installed this ROM after flashing to Stock w/recovery 3.0.8. Have been using it for a few days now with no rebooting issues so far and only one occurrence of Airplane Mode. The Linpack score has been a consistent 8-9 MFLOPS. I am adding my apps one at a time to test if performance drops due to any of my apps.
The gps fix works well when indoors, but is a big “No No” for Google Navigation. I have switched back to the default as I frequently use my Moment as a GPS navigation device.
Battery life is a solid 8-9 hrs with multiple activities.
I think this one’s a keeper and so have backed it up in recovery mode. Thanks for the good work.

Titanium-X 1.2.3

DC13 & Shepscrook have released Titanium-X 1.2.3, the smallest ROM currently available for the Samsung Moment. Two versions for you to choose from – with JIT (9+ MFLOPS) or without (5+ MFLOPS).
Day three of use and it just gets better and better. I am averaging about 9.2 MFLOPS with my highest being 10.3. This is all while running LWP, Moxier (Which I am the happiest about), and a few other background apps. Battery life has been good, with me making it about 15 hours before it was asking to be plugged in.
All in all, I give this rom an A+!!

Confirmed: Epic 4G releases August 20th

An anonymous source of SDX-Developers just got confirmation through official email from Samsung and Sprint Corporate that advocate devices to be rolled out starting 8/9/2010. They were originally intended to be rolled out 8/6/2010, but was changed due to a “minor delay” they did not disclose. The August 20th release date was officially confirmed as well!
Radioactive FroYo 1.8.7 (stable)

Radioactive FroYo is a custom ROM by Noobnl that’s a rooted Moment-Acclaim Hybrid, with MeatKernel 2.0, FroYo Dalvik VM JIT, Google Javascript V8 engine, LouZiffer’s m900 WiFi-Tether pre-installed and much more.
Never have I had a phone be so much fun to have and test different options on! Thanks Noobl and all you other developers out there for keeping this going and improving.

Android reacts to pirated apps
Android today made changes in its licensing and verification of applications, using a web-based service that can “query Android Market at run time to obtain their licensing status for the current user, then allow or disallow further use as appropriate.”
